Charlestown was founded in 1629, before Boston, and was the first capital of the Massachusetts Bay Colony. Located on the northern side of Boston, Charlestown is a peninsula that lays between the Charles River and the Mystic River. It is a history-rich neighborhood that is home to the end of the Freedom Trail, the Bunker Hill Monument, the starting point of Paul Revere's famous Midnight Ride, and the USS Constitution, the oldest standing vessel still commissioned by the US Navy.
Charlestown's history can also be seen in the area's abundance of beautiful colonial architecture, however the neighborhood also boasts an array of modern luxury lofts. Charlestown is known for its close knit neighborhoods and village feel, but there is also a recent influx of young professionals taking advantage of proximity to downtown Boston without while avoiding downtown rent.
