South End Real Estate
The South End neighborhood of Boston is located to the South of Back Bay, minutes from downtown Boston. Despite its name is not located directly south from the center of Boston. The South End is a more economically viable option for people that want to live close to Copley and downtown, but can’t afford the higher rents of Back Bay and Beacon Hill.
The South End is one of the most diverse neighborhoods in Boston and includes some of the city’s finest restaurants. The South End is home to the country’s largest continuous Landmark District, with over 30 parks and established artists’ communities within its borders. All that open space makes South End apartments appealing to pet owners, too! There are also a variety of events hosted in the area including the seasonal ‘Open Studios’ event in which area artists open their studios to the public, the SOWA market.
South End real estate is mainly comprised of renovated 19th century Victorian row houses. The property available in the South End is as diverse as its population—from brownstone apartments and homes, to modern lofts and condominiums.
The MBTA train system does not connect directly to the South End, but there are several train stop located a short walk (approximately a block or two) north of the South End, including the Green Line’s ‘Arlington’ and ‘Copley’ stations, as well as the Orange Line’s ‘Back Bay’ and ‘Mass Ave’ stops. The recent addition of the Silver Line rapid transit bus service throughout the neighborhood has made commuting without a car from the South End even easier!
